Host: News Discovery Time! Today we are exploring… (Sound effects: Bang! Pop! Wow!) a lake that looks like a painting and a journey to the stars!

Hello, everyone, and welcome back to our weekly news roundup for curious minds! I’m your host, ready to share some of the most amazing stories happening right now. First, we will float through a scene of breathtaking beauty, and then we will blast off on an incredible space adventure. So, buckle up!

Our first story takes us to the Wulingyuan Scenic Area in China’s Hunan province, where something truly magical has happened at Baofeng Lake. For days, autumn rain had been falling, but recently, the clouds have parted and clear skies have returned. And what they’ve revealed is simply stunning.

Baofeng Lake is a renowned/famous attraction, but after the rain, its beauty has reached a new level. A large number of visitors have flocked to see the amazing scenery. Imagine this: you are sitting in a small boat, gliding silently across the water. You feel the cool, fresh air on your face. The lake’s surface is a vibrant turquoise color, so clear and still that it perfectly reflects the sky above. It’s like floating on a giant, liquid jewel. All around you, you see iconic stone cliffs rising dramatically towards the sky. Their tops are wrapped in a soft blanket of white clouds and lingering mist, making them look mysterious and ancient. It feels as if you have sailed straight into a traditional Chinese painting, a living, breathing piece of art. Photographers have been captivated by this view, trying to capture the perfect picture of the cliffs reflected on the water.

The entire scene is a perfect example of nature’s powerful, peaceful presence. It reminds us that sometimes, after a period of grey rain, the world becomes even more colorful and bright. If you were in that boat, feeling the peacefulness of the lake and seeing the misty mountains, what kind of happy thoughts would come to your mind?

Now, hold on tight, because we are leaving the tranquil waters of Earth and rocketing into outer space! Our second story is about China’s 16th manned spaceflight mission, Shenzhou XXI (meaning “Divine Vessel”). This is a huge event!

Late on a Friday night, three astronauts began their incredible six-month journey. Their names are Senior Colonel Zhang Lu, the mission commander; Major Wu Fei, the spaceflight engineer; and Zhang Hongzhang, the payload specialist. They launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, which is in the Gobi Desert. Can you hear the countdown in your head? 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… Liftoff! Their spaceship was carried by a Long March 2F rocket, a massive vehicle that is 20 stories tall! To help you picture that, it’s as tall as stacking about 30 cars on top of each other. That’s a seriously big rocket! It thundered up, leaving a bright trail in the night sky.

Soon after, they crossed a special boundary called the Karman line, which is 100 kilometers above sea level. This is where outer space officially begins! Imagine traveling that distance straight up; it would be like a one-hour car ride on a highway, but going vertically! Once in space, the Shenzhou XXI spacecraft separated from the rocket and started its rapid autonomous (independent/self-governing) journey to the Tiangong space station (meaning “Heavenly Palace”). The docking process was planned to take only about three-and-a-half hours.

The Tiangong is currently the only operational space station run by a single nation, which makes this mission even more significant. When the Shenzhou XXI crew arrived, they didn’t just find an empty station. The Shenzhou XX crew was waiting inside to welcome them! For a few days, both teams will be together in space, which must be a really cool experience. The new crew will learn from the old crew before the Shenzhou XX astronauts head back home to Earth.

So, what will the Shenzhou XXI crew do for six months? They have a very busy schedule! They will conduct 27 new scientific and technological projects. These experiments cover everything from space life sciences and medicine to creating new materials in microgravity. They will also perform spacewalks to install new equipment, like shields to protect the station from space debris (trash/junk), and deploy other instruments. They’ve even planned to give science lectures from space for students like us!

What I find especially inspiring is the story of Zhang Hongzhang. He said that it was a privilege because he had actually helped design one of the science projects they brought with them. Now, he gets to conduct his own experiment in orbit! Imagine inventing something and then traveling to space to test it yourself. If you had the chance to design one experiment to be done on the space station, what amazing question would you try to answer?

That’s all the time we have for today. From misty lakes to star-filled skies, our world and the universe beyond are full of wonders. Keep asking questions and keep exploring!

主持人: News Discovery Time! Pop! Wow!)
